International Convention Centre, Medinah, KSA

In the summer of last year Affan was awarded the sub contract by Al Muhaidib Contractors to design, fabricate, deliver and install 8 structural composite domes, the feature roof components of the International Convention Centre, designed by Dar Al Handesah in Lebanon.

The domes will compose a 1 hour fire rated steel support structure, supporting advance structural composite domes finished with glass mosaics from Trend in Italy and LED lighting from MCL in Spain.

Work is progressing in design and the construction of a full size 14m mock up, with a commencement on site planned for March of this year.

Affan wins 2014 CFK Valley Award for Vision

As part of the CFK Valley group, Affan is well used to being in the company of industry leaders both in automation and aerospace … Rolls Royce, Volkswagon, Airbus and Schindler are all giants in their respective fields

It was therefore with a mixture of surprise and delight that Affan were presented with the 2014 Award for Vision from the German minister of thr Economy Mr. Olaf Lies …….. In Germany last month

The award recognizes a company’s desire to be different, to push the boundaries of what is possible and to stand out from its competitors

Carbon fibre has for many been a material synonymous with cost, its expense has prohibited its use except in the high profile arenas of aerospace and motor sport.

Affan realized that in special projects it could be the answer to many construction related obstacles and continued with research and development of the processes until the right projects could be found.

In 2014 Affan successfully used carbon fibre in several landmark projects such as the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi, and the now iconic Ladybug at Al Jalila Hospital in Dubai.

As Architects continue to design more demanding and innovative structures, it is companies like Affan that seek to make the impossible possible.
